Melessia has been the Health Center’s licensed nursing home administrator since 1995. She holds a master’s degree in health care administration from Des Moines University and a bachelor’s degree in public administration from Drake University. She also holds a specialist’s certificate in long term care management from Des Moines Area Community College. In addition to managing the facility, Melessia teaches classes in long term care and social gerontology at Des Moines University. Melessia’s college career was writing for the Des Moines Register.

Linda also began her career as a high school certified nursing assistant at the Carroll Health Center. After completing her registered nursing degree, Linda worked in hospital and nursing home management positions, before returning to the Health Center in 2001 as the Director of Nursing. She is certified in gerontological nursing.

Nancy Lemker began her career as a kindergarten teacher, but switched professions from working with children to working with the elderly. Nancy began as a certified nursing assistant at the Carroll Health Center in 1991 and has a special knack for dementia programming. She took over as activity director in 2004.

In her youth, Schellie worked as a certified nursing assistant at the Carroll Health Center. She returned to the Health Center in 1993 as the activity director. After completing her bachelor’s degree in Industrial Technology and Aging Services Management, Schellie began working in the business office. She is a licensed nursing home administrator and manages the accounts payable, accounts receivable, information technology and office functions. She is a whiz at navigating insurances.

A registered nurse, Kathy is responsible for new admissions to the facility, nursing department scheduling and orientation, and infection control. Kathy also began her career in health care as a part-time nursing assistant at the facility. She has many years of nursing management experience in skilled nursing facilities, hospitals, assisted living and hospice.

Laurie is the facility’s housekeeping and laundry supervisor. She is responsible for facility and personal laundry, as well as the cleanliness of the facility.

Sharon is the facility’s dietary manager and is responsible for overseeing the menus, ordering and supervision of the dietary department. Sharon began as a cook at the facility and is responsible for the great food served here.

Miranda’s high school job was as a dietary aide in the Health Center’s kitchen and later worked in the activity department. Miranda completed her bachelor’s degree in Human Services at Buena Vista University. Miranda manages payroll, new hire orientation and background checks, benefits and clerical functions for the facility.

Mark is the facility’s maintenance supervisor. He is responsible for maintenance of the facility’s equipment, building and grounds.

A graduate of Buena Vista University, Mindi is the facility’s social worker since 2005. She assists residents and their families with admissions and discharges, as well as providing counseling and support.

Judy began as an activity aide at the Carroll Health Center in 2004. In 2009, she took over the Directorship of Westwood Knolls. Judy leases apartments, manages the activities and serves meals at our independent living center.
